Techniques Tuesday - Galaxies

As we continue our watercolor explorations, we encourage you to try galaxies!

Our friend Katie (@studio.katie on Instagram) is the galaxy Queen, and she has very kindly shared a video to inspire you all.

Pick your palette of colors, your favorite watercolor brush and paper or sketchbook, make sure you have plenty of water, and simply play around with loading color onto your page; as you see Katie doing above.

The possibilities really are endless with watercolor galaxies; experiment with various combinations of your favorite colors, add metallics - and don’t forget the paint fleck stars!✨ (A toothbrush and white ink works wonders!)

Charlotte’s galaxy, below, takes on a different feel, but follows exactly the steps that Katie demonstrates in her video. No two galaxies will ever be the same, so let your imagination - and your paint brush - run free!

Once you’ve set up, it can be a truly meditative process to layer, blend, and build up all your colors, so take some time for yourself this week and dive into a galaxy - or three!
