Aster is the flower for September, my birth month. There is a lovely story about the origin of asters: the Greek goddess Astraeas fled from Earth to the heavens because she thought humans were becoming too violent. She formed the Virgo constellation, and as she looked around, she cried because she thought there should be more stars in the sky. Her tears fell to earth, where they turned into the flowers we know as asters.
